Music

Dr. Vijay B. Vad, sports medicine specialist in New York explains that using ipod/music playing devices to “listen to music you like  while exercising has been shown to help release endorphins and relieve stress and depression” (2010).

Of the survey results, almost 90% of respondents answered that music was beneficial in motivating them during exercise. Music had a significantly positive response, with most individuals explaining how it helped motivate them during exercise. Respondant 2 explained: "I feel I'm more motivated when I listen to music, you think about the beat and song when working out rather than the strain in your body, and can use music tempo changes to increase or decrease your speed".

Jess supported the use of music in the gym, as it is essential to maximise her performance:

"There's been numerous studies to show that listening to music has a psychological effect on exercise, where the people exercised for a longer period of time they would without. If I'm not listening to music I psychologically struggle, to get through a workout, but if I have a good playlist and tempo, I get excited and maximise my workout."
